CASE STUDY - A NEW BRAND FOR WIND ENERGY DIGITALIZATION
Client: National Renewable Energy Laboratory - IEA Wind Task 43, Boulder, Colorado
Disciplines: Branding and Logo Design

The aim of IEA Wind Task 43 is to identify wider opportunities to reduce lifecycle costs, enhance performance of assets and effectively integrate wind energy into evolving energy grids and markets.

The Challenge

The International Energy Agency (IEA) is the major intergovernmental organization dedicated to the areas of energy supply and energy demand. IEA Wind is the sub-organization dedicated to the development of wind energy across the world. IEA Wind conducts various projects, called Tasks, each representing a theme relevant to industry, governments, academia, and financial stakeholders.
ESIDE worked with Task 43, which focuses its efforts on the broad and ambitious area of digitalization of wind energy. Task 43 represents major players within the wind energy industry as well as within the research community. Task 43 is lead by the United States and members come from various nations, such as Germany, Denmark, and China.

The Design Process

ESIDE and the leaders of IEA Wind Task 43 met multiple times to brainstorm about the design needs of Task 43. The design activities started from the definition of the theme guidelines and continued with the design of the logo.
The logo was defined thanks to a series of design iterations.

The Outcome

IEA Wind Task 43 is incrementally increasing the number of activities, online meetings, presentations at online conferences, and involvement of all Task members. Thanks to the design process developed by ESIDE, a clear and consistent set of design guidelines is established and the brand of IEA Wind Task 43 can grow in popularity and generate an impact to the wind energy world.
